Q: Where is my car’s OBDII Port?
ABS System–What You Need to Know
An ABS (anti-lock braking system) or anti-skid braking system is an automobile safety system that allows the wheels on a motor vehicle to maintain tractive contact with the road surface according to driver inputs while braking, preventing the wheels from locking up (ceasing rotation) and avoiding uncontrolled skidding. On many vehicles, braking ability will be reduced if the antilock system malfunctions, and stability control and traction control (on vehicles with those features) might also be disabled.
How do I know if my ABS system is not working?
A warning light for the ABS is supposed to illuminate briefly every time you start your car. If the warning light stays on, that means the antilock system has been deactivated because of an electrical or mechanical malfunction. Your vehicle’s regular brakes should operate, but the antilock feature that prevents wheels from locking up during braking will not work. In addition, if your vehicle has stability control and traction control, those will be disabled too because they rely on the same wheel-speed sensors as the antilock system.
How do I fix the problem?
FOXWELL NT630 Elite ABS diagnostic tool can help you diagnose your car and find out what wrong with it. You just need repair the car according to the information it gives you. After you correct the condition(s) that caused the fault, you can use the scanner to reset the ABS light. Erase codes does not fix the problem that caused the fault! DTCs should only be erased after correcting the condition(s) that caused them. So you must get the car repaired before erase the codes.
SRS: is made up of Impact Sensors, a Control Module, and Airbags. When the impact sensors detect a collision they send an extremely fast signal to the control module, which relays that signal to the airbags, deploying them to help prevent vehicle occupants from hitting interior objects such as steering wheels, dashboards, and the like. When the control module detects a problem with the airbags or sensors the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) will turn on.
The ABS/SRS diagnostic function is used to retrieve and clear codes from the vehicle ABS/SRS systems. It also provides the definition of each code to help diagnose problem areas within the systems that may cause the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) to turn on.
I bought this scanner to read the ABS related codes on my Dodge Nitro. I had the ABS, Traction control and ESP/BAS lights on my dash, and my old scanner could not read these codes. The Foxwell was able to read the stored codes, as well as perform live monitoring, which helped me identify which wheel had a bad speed sensor. I then purchased a replacement sensor for ~$20 and was able to correct the problem myself. Taking this to a dealer or repair shop would have cost hundreds of dollars to repair, including an $80 charge just for the diagnostics. I am very happy with this scanner.
Purchased this scanner to clear the SRS warning light on my 2002 Honda Odyssey after I addressed the problem that caused the light to go on. Water was leaking onto the driver seat belt tensioner from a leaking roof rack. I reviewed the video demo of how to use the scanner and went to work. My scanner probably had updated software so things didn’t match up with the video, but easy enough to work through to eliminate the SRS warning light. I hope the fix is permanent and only time will tell. At least I can extinguish it again now that I have the scanner. Worthwhile investment considering what Honda dealers charge to fix it.
I didn’t really need an OBDII scanner since I just borrow one from the store when needed, but this professional OBDII had the ABS bleed function that I was after for my 01′ Grand Cherokee. I refuse to take my vehicles to any dealer or any mechanic really, I was thrilled to find this worked and could not be beaten for the price. I did my base bleed, then this cycled the solenoids twice and when I bled again, I got the air. It didn’t run the pump during the bleed function like I’ve seen some videos show, but I’m assuming that’s just how the Chrysler program works. It will allow me to run the pump or activate each solenoid separately. Happy guy here.
I bought the ODB2 car diagnostic tool to bleed the abs module on a 96 Ford Ranger. There is a way to turn on the abs motor and open each valve, but it’s not as simple as it is when I hook it up to my 08 Hyundai Tiburon. In the ABS options for the Tiburon, there is a clear option for auto bleed, service bleed, etc. The options are different per vehicle. Not sure about compatibility until ya try it I guess.
